DAVID: THIS WAS A HORRIFIC TIME, AS YOU KNOW, FOR WE WERE ESSENTIALLY BURNED OUT OF EVEN THE WORST HOUSING IN THE CITY. I’VE NOT SEEN ANY PHOTOGRAPHIC WORK RELATED TO THIS CRIME AGAINST US. I COMMEND YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS, AND HOPE YOU CAN RESURRECT THE FEAR AND LOATHING WHICH THIS COWARDLY ACT CREATED IN OUR PEOPLE.
WHAT WAS WORSE, AS YOU KNOW IS THAT MOST OF THE “TORCHES” WERE PUERTO RICANS LOOKING FOR A QUICK BUCK, USUALLY FOR THE NEXT FIX. BUT THESE WERE BUT THE GO-FERS, THE REAL CRIMINALS GOT AWAY WITH THEIR ARSON AFTER COLLECTING ON THEIR INSURANCE POLICIES.
THERE WAS GRAFT ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP, BUT ALL OF THIS WAS COVERED UP, NATURALLY.
I STILL HEAR THE YANKEE BROADCASTER OF A WORLD SERIES GAME AFTER A SHOT OF THE GLOW FROM A BURNING BUILDING NOT FAR FROM THE YANKEE STADIUM: “LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE BRONX IS BURNING”
AND I’M A FIRM BELIEVER IN HE WHO SAID: “PUERTO RICANS ARE A DESPISED MINORITY”.
WE NEED TO RAISE SOME HOLY HELL, FOR WE LANDED AT THE BOTTOM AND HAVE STAYED THERE.
